Cost of Your First Appointment

The cost of an in-person appointment varies from person to person.

In general, the amount includes a review of your medical information by your care team, your actual doctor’s appointment, and any routine blood tests that may be ordered.

Your care advisor will be able to tell you the amount once the appointment is scheduled. Payment is due in advance.

After your appointment, your doctor may request additional tests. These could include CT scans, MRIs, x-rays, or extensive blood work. These tests come at an additional cost.

Cost of a Second Opinion by Mail or Email

The cost of a second opinion varies from person to person.

Services we may recommend include a medical records review, pathology slides review, and radiology images review.

Payment in full is required before we complete your review. Please contact our guest services team to learn more about the service options available and related costs.

Cost of Treatment

After your first appointment, we will provide you with an estimate based on the plan of care recommended by your MSK doctor. Our financial policy requires that this amount be paid in full prior to starting treatment.

We are committed to providing you with the most accurate estimate possible — no hidden costs. That said, the actual cost of your care may be higher or lower than the amount given. We understand this can be stressful for you and your family. We encourage you to reach out to your guest services coordinator with your financial questions.

Methods of Payment

We accept payment in the form of major credit cards, traveler’s checks, certified checks, and wire transfers. See our bank wire transfer instructions.

If you are sponsored by an embassy, Memorial Sloan Kettering will bill your embassy.


Memorial Sloan Kettering works with a limited number of international insurance companies. To find out about possible insurance coverage, please contact us at or speak with your designated care advisor.

Financial Statements

You will receive two types of financial statements from Memorial Sloan Kettering:

  • One covers the care provided by your doctors. It is called the Statement of Accounts for Physician Services. It is sent on a monthly basis.
  • The other statement covers all non-physician charges, such as nursing care and facility costs. If you are hospitalized, the statement is called the Memorial Hospital Inpatient Statement of Accounts. You will receive it approximately two weeks after you leave the hospital. Statements for outpatient care are sent on a monthly basis. These are called the Memorial Hospital Outpatient Statement of Accounts.

Our financial statements provide important details on prior balances, payments received, and new charges for services received. If you have insurance that does not work with MSK, you can submit these statements to your insurance company to seek reimbursement. If the actual cost of your care is lower than the estimated amount you have already paid, you will receive a refund.

Typically, refunds are sent within five weeks of completing treatment.

If you paid by credit card, a refund will be made to your credit card account within one year of the original charge date. Otherwise, we will send your refund by wire transfer.

If you expect to return to Memorial Sloan Kettering for care in the future, you may want to consider keeping some or all of the funds in your account with us.
