Chair’s Welcome

Thank you for visiting the Department of Medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). Our faculty are world leaders in cancer care who represent all internal medicine subspecialties, speak a combined total of more than 30 languages, and embody the cultural diversity of our region. Despite our varied professional training and backgrounds, we are united by a common goal: decreasing death and suffering from cancer.

What makes us distinctive is our emphasis on innovation and discovery of better ways to treat cancer. We conduct basic and translational research and lead innovative clinical trials. We also develop ways to make care more convenient and responsive to the needs of the patients and communities we serve. We coordinate and deliver compassionate care — and cures — in our Urgent Care Centers, hospital, outpatient clinic, transplant units, and even in our patients’ homes. We are “One MSK,” and our services extend across practice sites in Manhattan, with regional network locations reaching from Southern New Jersey to Eastern Long Island.

The faculty members in our department are experts in the delivery of multidisciplinary cancer care. They work at MSK because of their commitment to the discovery and application of new knowledge that improves the lives of people with cancer. We carry out research in basic science laboratories; in “dry” laboratories with data; in “communities” focused on education, public health, and early detection; and, of course, in our clinics focused on cutting-edge clinical trials. Many of our trials have led to the FDA approval of new therapies to treat cancer. We also train students, residents, fellows, advanced fellows, and visiting faculty, as well as clinical research professionals, nurses, and advanced practitioners from around the world in our effort to bring MSK-quality care to anyone who needs it. The way we execute on our mission is through teamwork—across our “One MSK” system and with partners who work in other health systems, cancer centers, communities, and companies around the world.

Our department is steadfast in our dedication to:

  • Deliver skillful, compassionate care that saves and extends lives
  • Discovery and innovation that improves outcomes
  • Listening and responding to the needs of our patients, their families, and the communities we serve
  • Teamwork, partnerships, and training to share skills and knowledge

On behalf of the nearly 500 faculty members in MSK’s Department of Medicine, I invite you to explore our clinical care services, research, and educational opportunities. Please remember, our innovation pace is rapid. If you don’t see what you are looking for on our website, please email us or call (212-639-5851)—whether you seek information about clinical care, education, or research, we are eager to help. We look forward to hearing from you
